Background
In 1912, Emmeline Pankhurst led the Suffragettes across the west end smashing shop windows. Eight of them were Harvey Nichol’s. Their actions were part of a wider campaign to win the right to vote for all women. Regrettably, they cared more about the damage they did than the message they made. Over a century later, the idea was to collaborate with the Mayor’s initiative #BehindEveryGreatCity to commemorate the centenary of women’s right to vote.
